Project 2025

Walworth County Democratic Party, August 29, 2024

Volunteer Patt Heise combed through the massive Project 2025 “conservative playbook” of the Heritage Foundation. Here is an introduction and ways that you can learn more about what is proposed Project 2025 and how serious we must be about defeating the candidate that is likely to try to implement many of its provisions.

All items have been researched, verified, and cited WITH PAGE NUMBERS.

Many Democrats and others have heard of Project 2025, compiled under the auspices of the Heritage Foundation, an avowedly right-wing think tank.

The Heritage Foundation describes the project this way: “It is not enough for conservatives to win elections. If we are going to rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left, we need both a governing agenda and the right people in place, ready to carry this agenda out on day one of the next conservative administration.

“This is the goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. The project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative administration: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.” (Link to the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 website, https://www.project2025.org/about/about-project-2025/)

You have also, undoubtedly, heard that former President Trump has disavowed any connection with Project 2025, even claiming that he knows nothing about it. This seems unlikely given the large number of Trump allies who participated in producing the plan. According to CNN, at least 140 former Trump administration officials participated in drafting the plan. “Six of his former Cabinet secretaries helped write or collaborated on the 900-page playbook for a second Trump term published by the Heritage Foundation. Four individuals Trump nominated as ambassadors were also involved, along with several enforcers of his controversial immigration crackdown. And about 20 pages are credited to his first deputy chief of staff.” In addition, “Dozens more who staffed Trump’s government hold positions with conservative groups advising Project 2025, including his former chief of staff Mark Meadows and longtime adviser Stephen Miller. These groups also include several lawyers deeply involved in Trump’s attempts to remain in power, such as his impeachment attorney Jay Sekulow and two of the legal architects of his failed bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election, Cleta Mitchell and John Eastman.”

No one suspects that he wrote any of it, or has even read it, but the plan is to put into his administration loyalists who will move these ideas forward. Reports indicate that the principal author of the document is continuing work on the effort by preparing draft Executive Orders that would implement key portions of the plan in the first 180 days of a Trump presidency.

Skeptics may look at Project 2025 and view it as so extreme that it is impossible that it could actually be implemented. Nonetheless, we live in an era in which a majority of Supreme Court justices held that a president is immune from criminal prosecution for any actions even plausibly within his role as president.

Go to our Elections page to learn more about what is in the plan. There you will find a pdf with over 180 slides prepared by Patt Heise, summarizing proposals in Project 2025 that Democrats view as alarming. You will find many that should be alarming to all Americans.

On our Elections page, we also have links to the Harris-Walz campaign summary for project 2025, which is relatively brief and readable and includes a link to the full document.

We bought a pig for the needy

Bidding at the Walworth County Fair Meat Auction is a tradition for Walworth County Democrats. This year, a donor challenged us to raise enough money to buy a pig.

You did it! You pitched in donated enough funds that our bid on a pig was successful.

We will donate the meat—all butchered and packaged for storage—to the Twin Oaks Homeless Shelter and other charities that support people in need.

Thank you for making this possible. It is good for our community to see that we are totally part of the community.

Harris receives two more noteworthy endorsements:

Dolores Huerta, labor leader, civil rights activist, and co-founder with César Chávez of the United Farmworkers Association, gave the Harris-Walz ticket her enthusiastic endorsement.

LULAC, the League of United Latin American Citizens, endorsed Harris-Walz: the first time in nearly 100 years that the organization made any presidential election endorsement. They did it as a result of the Trump plan for mass deportations and the recent Texas authority raids on election officials and LULAC members.
